Kari Lake, the former Republican candidate for Arizona's gubernatorial race and the rightful victor of the 2022 midterm election, has recently voiced her concerns regarding the alleged corruption and bribery scheme involving Katie Hobbs, which reportedly commenced on the day of her inauguration in January 2023.

According to The Gateway Pundit, Hobbs is currently under scrutiny due to an investigation into substantial donations made to the Democratic Party and a shadowy money group. These funds were allegedly used for Hobbs' inaugural events, potentially swaying state contract decisions.

Hobbs' ethical integrity was previously challenged by GOP State Legislators when she solicited donations of up to $250,000 via a 501(c)(4) nonprofit group for inaugural events. It is reported that she received $400,000 from a company, which subsequently made millions in return.

This controversy arose after Hobbs, who was Secretary of State at the time and responsible for statewide elections, won her election by a slim margin of less than 1% of the vote against Trump-endorsed Kari Lake. This occurred amidst reports of 60% of vote counting machines failing in Maricopa, the state's largest county, and other severe irregularities reported across the state.

"I’ve always known she was unethical. You could just look at her path and look at how she ran the Secretary of State’s office," Lake stated in response to the pay-for-play allegations. "She ran the election that everyone saw was not run well in Arizona, to say the least."

Under GOP pressure, Democrat Attorney General Kris Mayes, who also controversially won the 2022 election by a mere 280 votes against Trump-endorsed Abe Hamadeh, recently announced the launch of a criminal investigation into Hobbs' alleged pay-to-play scheme.

The Gateway Pundit reported that Hobbs recently lost her composure and yelled at reporters when questioned about the investigation. Despite appearing stressed over the investigation, Hobbs expressed confidence that her Democrat colleague's investigation will find "that we acted in the best interest of Arizonans."

However, GOP leaders do not expect Mayes, a Democrat, to conduct a thorough investigation due to her conflict of interest. Furthermore, the Attorney General's office represents the Department of Child Safety, which may be implicated in the corruption.

Kari Lake echoed these sentiments, telling Chris Salcedo, "Now we have the AG—who really shouldn’t, in my opinion, be sitting in that seat—investigating a fellow Democrat." Lake continued, "I don't hold out a lot of hope, Chris, that this investigation will be done properly, but it should be done properly. And I think when they dig a little bit deeper, they're going to find not just unethical behavior, but perhaps criminal behavior if we can get a solid investigation."

In a proactive move, Republican Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell sent a letter earlier this month to Mayes, indicating her intention to open her own investigation into the matter.

Mitchell's letter was a response to June 7 letters to the Maricopa County Attorney and the state's Auditor General, requesting both agencies to refrain from the investigation. The letter claimed that a separate investigation "could jeopardize the integrity of the criminal investigation that my office will now proceed with."

State Rep. David Livingston, R-28th District, has asked Mayes to recuse herself from the investigation due to concerns over her ability to impartially investigate a member of her own party. On Monday, Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee, a Republican, requested Mitchell, a fellow Republican, to conduct her own investigation to ensure objectivity, as reported by ABC15.

Kari Lake appeared on the Chris Salcedo Show on Newsmax earlier this month to discuss Hobbs' latest scandal.

In the interview, Salcedo raised concerns about Sunshine Residential Homes' donation of approximately $400,000 to Hobbs. Questions have been raised as the Department of Child Safety increased their daily pay rate per child by about 60%, while other homes had their requests for more funding rejected. Salcedo asked Lake about the potential trouble Arizona could face with Hobbs at the helm.

Lake responded, "Well, I mean, I've always known she was unethical. You could just look at her path and look at how she ran the Secretary of State's office. She ran the election that everyone saw was not run well in Arizona, to say the least. And now we have the AG—who really shouldn’t, in my opinion, be sitting in that seat—investigating a fellow Democrat. I mean, the entire state of Arizona is run, in my opinion, by the cartels and so I don't hold out a lot of hope, Chris, that this investigation will be done properly, but it should be done properly. And I think when they dig a little bit deeper, they're going to find not just unethical behavior, but perhaps criminal behavior, if we can get a solid investigation."

The unfolding scandal and the investigations it has sparked raise serious questions about the integrity of Arizona's political landscape. As the investigations proceed, the people of Arizona will be watching closely, hoping for a thorough and impartial inquiry that will shed light on the alleged corruption and potentially criminal behavior.
