In a recent development, the Kremlin has leveled serious accusations against the United States, claiming that Washington's actions have led to the death of Russian children.

This follows an attack on Crimea, a region under Russian control, by Ukraine using long-range missiles supplied by the U.S. The Kremlin has warned of unspecified 'consequences' in response to this incident, according to the Daily Mail.

The U.S. ambassador was summoned by Moscow to receive a formal warning. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, publicly criticized the U.S. for its 'barbaric' strike on Sevastopol, a strategic port city on the Black Sea. "The involvement of the United States, the direct involvement, as a result of which Russian civilians are killed, cannot be without consequences," Peskov stated. "Time will tell what these will be."

Peskov, known as a mouthpiece for Russian President Vladimir Putin, urged reporters to question their counterparts in Europe and Washington. "You should ask my colleagues in Europe, and above all in Washington, the press secretaries, why their governments are killing Russian children. Just ask them this question," he said.

Following the attack on Sevastopol, Russia accused the U.S. of 'waging a hybrid war against Russia and has actually become a party to the conflict.' The Russian government also informed U.S. ambassador Lynne Tracy that the attack would 'not go unpunished. Retaliatory measures will definitely follow.' The attack reportedly resulted in the death of at least four people, including two children, and injured 150 others.

Footage from the scene shows beachgoers fleeing in panic as shrapnel falls from the sky, a result of Russian air defense intercepting the U.S.-supplied ATACMS missiles. Russia took control of Crimea in 2014, and since Russia's 2022 invasion, Ukraine has launched a series of drone attacks on Russian naval assets and the Black Sea port.

The ATACMS missiles, which have a significantly longer range of 190 miles (300km) than previous U.S.-supplied missiles, began arriving in Ukraine earlier this year following intense lobbying from Kiev. The U.S. recently changed its policy to permit the use of these weapons within Russian territory along the border with Ukraine, following relentless Russian attacks on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city.

Ukrainian commanders have been advocating for the authority to use these weapons to target areas where Russia is amassing troops and storing aircraft and ammunition in preparation for assaults on Ukrainian territory. The long-range ATACMS were included in a military aid package in March, although restrictions still prevent their use deep within Russian territory.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with the U.S. and NATO allies supporting Ukraine's defense, has strained relations between the U.S. and Russia, both of which are nuclear powers. Earlier this month, Putin issued his own warning in response to reports of the U.S. shipping longer-range ATACMS to Ukraine. "Why don’t we have the right to supply weapons of the same class to regions of the world where there will be strikes on sensitive facilities of those (Western) countries?" he questioned. "That is, the response can be asymmetric. We will think about it," he added.
