Andrew Cuomo, the embattled former governor of New York, recently made an appearance on "Real Time with Bill Maher."

The Blaze reports that the panel discussion touched on the contentious issue of immigration, a topic that has become a focal point in American politics.

Cuomo did not mince words in his critique of the Democratic administration's handling of the immigration crisis. "I get the theory of the extreme left — we’re a land of immigrants; let everyone come in; we all came as immigrants. I get it," he stated, "but how you do it makes all the difference in the world."

He continued, expressing concern about the lack of a comprehensive plan for managing open borders. "To just open the borders with no plan? You don't know where they go; you don't know who's going to pay for them; they wind up in cities all across the country."

Cuomo then directed his criticism towards New York City, a city currently grappling with the consequences of its decision to become a sanctuary city. "New York has a couple hundred thousand [illegal immigrants] in hotels, costing New York City a fortune," he revealed. He further highlighted the lack of support for these individuals, stating they have "no jobs, no training, no help to assimilate into society," and questioned, "So, who did you even help?"

Bill Maher chimed in, referencing the current governor of New York, a Democrat, who has publicly stated, "Don't come here." Cuomo responded, "Many mayors and governors said no" to being a sanctuary city, "but New York was more of the ideological left ... and now we're finding out 200,000 people later you needed a plan; you needed to know what to do with these people."

Dave Rubin, however, took a more hardline stance. He argued that there is no obligation to accept illegal immigrants if they are not wanted. He also suggested that Cuomo, had he remained in office, would have likely pursued the same policies he is now criticizing.

"I don't know that he'd be doing anything different now than Kathy Hochul except he is no longer governor, so now he can go on Bill Maher’s show and pretend, and be like, 'Well, I'm the sane one obviously. I would have had a plan, and we wouldn't have let these 200,000 people in,'" Rubin said.
