Despite being a highly influential figure within the Democratic party, Obama has remained noticeably silent on the President's re-election campaign.
The divorce between Buhle and Hunter Biden, which took place in 2017, has recently been thrust back into the spotlight due to Buhle's testimony at Hunter's federal gun trial in Delaware. The report, published by Axios, alleges that Obama has expressed to others that Buhle was unjustly treated by the Biden family, who have reportedly blamed her for the public exposure of some of Hunter's scandalous behavior.
However, White House spokesman Andrew Bates has refuted these claims, stating, "The Biden and Obama families are like family to each other, and whomever made these claims about that relationship isn’t familiar with it. The former President and First Lady have been two of the strongest supporters of President Biden’s leadership and agenda."

Buhle's accusations against Hunter Biden include squandering family funds on drugs and prostitutes, as well as infidelity, during his descent into crack cocaine addiction. The friendship between Buhle and Michelle Obama, which blossomed during the Obama administration, has reportedly caused tension between the Obamas and the Bidens.

The report also suggests that the relationship between the two families has evolved since the Obama presidency, during which Buhle and Michelle Obama would often exercise together and enjoy cocktails at the White House. The report also claims that former President Obama referred to the Biden family as "weird s***" after a 2017 fundraiser for the Beau Biden Foundation.

Both a White House spokesman and a representative for Obama have denied any discord between the two families. Crystal Carson, a spokesperson for Michelle Obama, stated, "Mrs. Obama has already said she supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign. She is friends with Kathleen and with the Bidens. Two things can be true. On Monday Dr. Biden graciously joined the family to celebrate the life of Mrs. Marian Robinson."
