According to Just The News, Judge Diana Tennis, who had presided over cases in the Ninth Judicial Circuit covering Orange and Osceola counties since 2015, became the subject of a formal probe in September 2025. The inquiry followed reports that she had been quietly funneling money into partisan causes while serving in a role that is supposed to remain above the political fray.
The state’s Judicial Qualifications Commission determined that Tennis made nearly $30,000 in roughly 900 contributions to left-leaning political groups and Democratic candidates, including “former President Joe Biden” and “Florida Sen. Bill Nelson.” For conservatives who have long warned about ideological bias on the bench, the scale and direction of those donations will only deepen concerns about judicial neutrality in a system already under strain.

Under the Florida Code of Judicial Conduct, judges are explicitly barred from making political donations, attending party events, or endorsing candidates, rules designed to preserve public trust in an impartial judiciary. The Florida Supreme Court responded in July by ordering Tennis suspended, imposing a fine, and issuing a public reprimand for her conduct.

Rather than serve out the remaining months of her term under that cloud, Tennis chose to resign roughly four months early, avoiding further public scrutiny while leaving voters without the accountability of an election verdict on her record. “Judge Tennis is an outstanding Judge who has diligently served the central Florida community with distinction for many years. Her retirement is a loss for the community," her attorney told WESH, a defense that may do little to reassure citizens who expect judges to follow the same laws and ethical rules they enforce on everyone else.
