Fox Business star Maria Bartiromo was quietly cut off from her own staff in the weeks leading up to her abrupt removal from the network, a move that insiders say signaled her days at Fox were numbered.

Her ouster stunned the media industry when Fox announced her departure in a brief statement titled “Fox News Media Parts Ways With Maria Bartiromo,” adding that the company thanked her “for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter.”

According to Mediaite, the network also dismissed her longtime executive producer Patrick Ignozzi, a decision that followed a series of damaging reports about Bartiromo’s conduct and Fox’s mounting legal and reputational exposure.

As reported by Mediaite, one of the most explosive revelations came from CNN’s Oliver Darcy, who reported that Bartiromo had shared a confidential internal Fox memo with the Trump White House.

That memo, Darcy wrote, contained instructions from Fox management about how to handle coverage of a July speech by then-President Donald Trump in which he repeated his claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.

The internal guidance, according to Darcy, directed senior Fox personnel to avoid lending legitimacy to what he described as Trump’s “delusional claims” about the election.

He reported that Fox had “issued guidance to senior employees instructing them to steer clear of giving credence to Trump’s delusional claims” and that on-air figures did in fact “conspicuously” avoid “covering the debunked claims the president had pushed.”

Darcy further reported that either Trump himself or someone within the White House reached out to Bartiromo to ask why Fox was not airing his remarks.

In response, she allegedly disclosed not only that network executives had ordered talent to stay away from the story, but also forwarded the actual internal message to Trump’s team.

“In doing so, Bartiromo not only effectively betrayed her employer, but also disclosed confidential company information, violating the terms of her employment agreement,” wrote Darcy.

For a network already under intense scrutiny from the left and facing aggressive lawfare over its 2020 coverage, such a breach of internal communications would inevitably raise alarms among Fox’s top brass.

A source familiar with the situation stressed that the Trump memo incident was “not the only reason” behind Bartiromo’s sudden removal.

The source confirmed that it was “a confluence of factors,” pointing in particular to Fox’s massive $787.5 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems in 2023 and the still-pending lawsuit from Smartmatic “still hanging out there.”

Bartiromo was one of the most prominent on-air figures cited in those election-related lawsuits and, unlike many in corporate media who quickly fell in line with establishment narratives, she continued at times to question the 2020 outcome.

That posture, while applauded by many conservative viewers who distrust the integrity of the process, made her a prime target for left-wing activists and plaintiff attorneys seeking to punish Fox and chill dissenting coverage.

A Fox News Media spokesperson told Mediaite that the decision to part ways with Bartiromo was simply a “business decision” and declined to elaborate.

In corporate-speak, that phrase often signals a calculation driven by legal risk, advertiser pressure, and the desire of management to move past controversies that threaten the bottom line.

The source also pointed to comments made by investor and television personality Kevin O’Leary on a May 11 broadcast as another factor in the network’s decision.

On Bartiromo’s program, O’Leary accused nonprofit organizations opposing his Utah data center project of effectively acting as covert operatives for the Chinese Communist Party.

“The Kevin O’Leary thing was not good,” the source said, characterizing the segment as Bartiromo allowing O’Leary to “say something crazy about China paying people,” and presenting it as “breaking news” without seeking comment from those accused.

O’Leary later retracted his remarks, and Fox issued on-air apologies across multiple shows, but both he and the network were sued by the nonprofits, which called the allegations false and defamatory.

The source suggested that, while the O’Leary episode and the election-related litigation added to Fox’s anxiety, the sharing of the internal Trump guidance with the White House appeared to be the final tipping point.

In the aftermath, Bartiromo found herself effectively quarantined inside the company, with senior management ordering that she be cut off from direct contact with colleagues.

“In order to talk to her, you had to go to management,” the source said, adding that this unusual barrier was how staff “knew something was up.”

If Bartiromo had merely been on vacation, normal communication would have continued, but instead, “they were instructed not to talk to her,” the source explained.

“Even her own staff had to go through management,” the source continued.

The source added that Bartiromo had been spotted in the Hamptons in recent weeks but was keeping an uncharacteristically low profile, “nowhere to be found” with her usual social circle, not returning calls and behaving “almost like she was undercover.”

Such behavior fueled speculation that she was bracing for a major professional upheaval and possibly preparing for a legal or contractual fight with the network.

Puck’s Dylan Byers reported that Bartiromo had only recently renewed her contract, signing a three-year deal with Fox this past February.

According to Byers, she has retained powerhouse attorney Bryan Freedman, who has represented high-profile media figures such as Don Lemon, Tucker Carlson, and Megyn Kelly after their own high-profile splits with major networks.

Within hours of announcing her departure, Fox had scrubbed Bartiromo from its website, deleting her biography and the pages that hosted video archives of both of her programs.

The speed and thoroughness of the digital purge underscored how eager the network appeared to be to distance itself from one of its most recognizable conservative voices.

The weekday Fox Business show formerly known as Bartiromo’s flagship program will be renamed and staffed with a rotating lineup of anchors, signaling a clear effort to reset the brand.

Her Sunday program on Fox News will be hosted this weekend by former Congressman Jason Chaffetz, with the network planning to rotate other Fox personalities into the slot going forward.

For many conservative viewers, Bartiromo’s exit raises uncomfortable questions about how much room remains inside major corporate media for hosts willing to challenge official narratives on elections, China, and the administrative state.

Between the Dominion settlement, the looming Smartmatic case, and mounting pressure from the left, Fox appears to be making risk-averse “business decisions” that may placate its legal adversaries while leaving a sizable portion of its audience wondering who will be willing—or allowed—to ask the questions that made Bartiromo a star in the first place.
